This story was originally published back in 1992, I think. I got one of the old prints of it off eBay. I enjoy collecting old books because of the vintage cover art. In this one, I really like the drawing of the couple, even though this isn't a very good scan of it. And the scary dude on the left...I don't recall anything like that in the book...
Anyway, to me, Secret Vampire is a classic in vampire tales and a must read if you fancy the fanged beings. If you see things in this that remind you of Twilight, well, that just tells you something interesting...L.J. Smith was first.
From Amazon:
"Teenage Poppy, petite, dynamic Poppy, has pancreatic cancer, a death sentence not even she can escape. Then her lifelong friend (and secret love) James confides that he can save her..."
Obviously this is meant for teens, but I love reading teen novels and I LOVED this story. The series has been reprinted more than once and it can be purchased in Night World #1. This volume contains Secret Vampire and two other stories in the Night World series. Megan has read those and she will review them for you sometime soon. This is a clean and sweet read.
The sad thing for this author is that she's been "fired" from actually writing her own books. It's a perfect example of how big publishers can take advantage of authors then and now. Yes, they're actually keeping her name, but the Vampire Diaries books are now being written and rewritten by ghost writers.
One word reveiw: Touching
Will I read it again? Certainly (Twice so far)
Would I recommend it? Obviously I do.
Was it violent? I wouldn't say so.
Was it clean? Yes.
